Finding Paradise is a single-player role-playing game developed and published by Freebird Games. It was released for Microsoft Windows, macOS and Linux on December 14, 2017, a Nintendo Switch port is releasing on about the same time Impostor Factory releases. Finding Paradise serves as a sequel to To The Moon.

Gameplay[]

Finding Paradise is built on the RPG Maker XP engine, which is used to create 16-bit 2D role-playing games, in the style of Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy. However, like its predecessors To The Moon and A Bird StoryFinding Paradise has no battle system, inventory system nor party system. The games centers around exploring the patient's memories and finding significant items and "memory links" to strengthen the will of the patient in order to create artificial memories making them believe that their last wish has been fulfilled.

Plot[]

Sigmund Corp. uses a technology that can create artificial memories. They offer this as a "wish fulfillment" service to people on their death beds. Since these artificial memories conflict with the patient's memories, the procedure is only legal to perform on patients without much time left.

Dr. Neil Watts and Dr. Eva Rosalene are tasked to fulfill the dying wish of Colin Reeds. Colin's wish, however, has a catch. He wishes to change something yet change nothing at all.

One of the more important characters in Colin's life, Faye, is heavily implied throughout the game to be an interpretation of the bird from A Bird Story. Colin states Faye was his first real friend, he says she was the reason he wanted to fly, and she tells Colin in the story's climax that she had already said goodbye. The events of A Bird Story are mentioned.

Development and release[]

On August 22, 2012, Freebird Games announced a second installment of the Sigmund Corp. series. It will be about a new patient; however, some familiar faces will return, such as Dr. Neil Watts and Dr. Eva Rosalene. A short story named A Bird Story was released as a prequel to the game and the protagonist will return as the patient in Finding Paradise.

The game was planned to be released in late 2013, but was later revised to "Coming soon". On August 12, 2014, it was announced by Freebird Games that A Bird Story will be made available on November 5, 2014 via digital distributors Steam, GOG.com and others. At the end of A Bird Story, a screen reveals that this boy will be the patient in To the Moon's sequel, titled Finding Paradise.

Finding Paradise had a joke trailer on November 22, 2017 and an official trailer afterwards on December 12 of the same year.[1][2]

The game was scheduled to be released at the end of 2017 and sure enough, it was on December 14th of that year.

Soundtrack[]

Shortly after the release of the game, the soundtrack was also released, both on Steam and Bandcamp.  It once again contains an original song by Laura Shigihara titled "Wish My Life Away" as well as several tracks composed by Kan Gao, the creator of the game. There is also a bonus song by Chris Ryker (RIOTxRYKER), Undertone titled "Every Single Memory".
